KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten is a place of discovery and socialization allowing for early learning and empowerment to develop as essential prerequisites to elementary school. Students as young as 3 years old enter a multilingual environment where they acquire the basics essential to their education through play, a wide range of activities and sensory experiences.

* LFS welcomes children in the Petite Section (PS) from their 3rd calendar year (international age). In addition, a “Toute Petite Section” (TPS)  has been created for students born at the beginning of the calendar year whose parents wish to enroll them between January and June, before their start of school in PS. The reception of these students is subject to certain conditions.

A FLEXIBLE 3-YEAR CYCLE

Speech is essential in the development of early learning. It is taught in each of the activities offered to children for their vocabulary and language skills to grow richer and stronger day after day.

Thanks to the daily practice of gross motor skills, students learn to control their movements, to evaluate distances, to socialize and cooperate with others.

Artistic activities encourage the exploration of materials and colors,  develop creativity and enhance abilities to follow guidelines and design shapes.

Throughout these three years, students will learn numbers, shapes, colors, location in time and space, different environments (countryside, city, forest, coastline, etc.) and their components (living and non-living beings, buildings, jobs, etc.). This learning process allows them to structure their thoughts and to express themselves, to adapt to new surroundings, to develop confidence and character.

As early as PS (First grade in Kindergarten), English and Korean classes are compulsory with 3 hours of English and 1 hour of Korean being taught to whole classes per week. Starting in GS(Third grade in Kindergarten), students have the opportunity to follow an intensive English course to best prepare them for admission to the American International Section in CP (Grade 1). Find out more on the Language Learning page.

Please note students are welcome at school once they no longer wear diapers during the day.

A united educational team

Each kindergarten class is taught by a French and English-speaking teacher with the support of an assistant who speaks French, English and Korean. Language instruction is provided by native English and Korean speaking teachers.

Team members closely monitor students’ progress, contribute to their assessment and organize projects throughout the year.

A gradual and positive appraisal

Each student is assessed on the development of skills during his or her three years of learning. Twice a year, parents receive a progress report on which the student’s achievements, acquired skills and improvements are recorded.

A summary of the end of cycle learning achievements is delivered at the end of GS (Last year of Kindergarten).

A PRIMARY SCHOOL LIBRARY TO ENRICH THE LEARNING PROCESS

Students visit the Primary School Library (BCD) each week to listen to a story and choose a book to take home.

They learn how to find their way around the library, explore the different forms of writing (documentary, scrapbook) and make a choice among the hundreds of books available in one of the school’s three languages (French, English, Korean).

These sessions are critical to their education and introduce them to literature and reading enjoyment.

EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIPS

Kindergarten classes go on day trips every year.

Visits to the Children’s Museum, the farm, the aquarium or strawberry picking fields are an excellent way to socialize and learn.

Teachers work with students on these trips several days in advance to get them to better understand the place, the activity and the behavior to adopt.

TESTIMONIAL

Although we were not familiar with French culture in terms of language and more importantly education system, we are getting fond of LFS’s pedagogical philosophy after a consultation with Directrice Ecole Primaire. What we love most is that the LFS curriculum emphasizes autonomy and the way of thinking through physical and artistic activities. My son is learning French language gradually while playing with teachers and friends. Although he cannot speak French fluently yet (he’s been in LFS only for 2 months), he seems to have no problem in communication with friends and teachers. My son and our family are truly enjoying the school life.
