OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

French education is based on 3-year cycles from Petite Section (PS) to 3ème (grade 9) with a common core of skills to be acquired from CP (grade 1) to 3ème.

This cycle-based approach allows students to develop skills at their own pace while gradually learning knowledge and attitudes.

At the end of 3ème, students obtain their first diploma, the Brevet, and make their first university guidance choices. In Seconde (grade 10), they follow a common core of courses and select the specialties they will take in Final Cycle (1ère, Terminale (grade 11, 12)) up to the BaccalaurEate diploma, which gives them access to higher education in France and around the world.

PROGRESSIVE LEARNING ENHANCED THROUGHOUT SCHOOL YEARS

AN AMBITIOUS AND ALL INCLUSIVE SCHOOL PROJECT

Each school elaborates a 3-year school plan to set its priorities and guiding principles in the education provided.

Lycée Français de Séoul has identified 4 major areas of focus in its 2018/2021 school project centered on Growing Together as its objective:

1

TO PROVIDE ALL STUDENTS WITH MULTILINGUAL EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS

LFS aims to ensure proficiency in French for all and at the same time provide adapted and strengthened courses in foreign languages, giving access to higher education in France and throughout the world.

2

TO OFFER EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS FOR ALL FORMS OF SUCCESS

LFS aims to support students in need and at the same time guide to excellence those who already demonstrate a high level of academic performance, in particular by assisting the students in their different schooling paths, enhancing teaching skills and implementing Parcours Avenir (Future Path).

3

TO BUILD A SCHOOL COMMUNITY FULLY ENGAGED WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD

via interaction with other student communities, the promotion of the culture of our host country, Korea, and school trips.

4

TO ESTABLISH LFS AS A PLACE FOR LIVING, LEARNING AND GROWING TOGETHER

where the living and working environment suits each one’s activities, where dialogue, attention and commitment are made possible in a secure environment. LFS also offers extracurricular activities which support its educational mission and strengthen the sense of belonging to the school community.

WHICH GRADE SHOULD YOUR CHILD BE IN?

The French education system welcomes children born in the same calendar year, between January 1st and December 31st, with the school year starting in September.

For example, a child born on November 1st who has not yet turned 3 years old at the beginning of the school year can start school in September in the Petite Section (PS, First year of Kindergarten)
