This year’s members of the KUDOS English debate club have participated in their first project named “The Orathon”.
The Orathon was an event where the participants needed to prepare and present a written production on a free subject in groups. This event was organized in order to build teamwork skills between the club members and help them improve their public speaking skills through experience. The 8 participants were divided into 3 groups and were given 4 hours to discuss and choose a topic, create a written production, and prepare an oral presentation on their work. This opening event for this year’s KUDOS debate club gave a chance to create synergy and exercise creativity with students they will have to work with throughout the whole school year as a member of KUDOS. The Orathon was an event highlighting the goal and purpose of the debate club. Congratulations to the participants of the Orathon!
Please look forward to future posts concerning KUDOS!

9 members of the debate club KUDOS participated in the organization of their second project, named the “Mock Trial”.
The project consisted in imitating a trial in an American court. Students learnt how to use judicial vocabulary and mastered the steps in a trial. Each participant had a role to fulfill during the event in order to defend their own side and obtain the verdict of “guilty” or “not guilty”. Information on a fictional criminal case was given to each participant and the students needed to analyze the case in order to develop a strategy that would help them win in the trial. 3 teachers and 2 students were invited as the members of the jury and needed to choose the side that was the most convincing during the trial, as well as the best speaker, without taking the final verdict into consideration. Certificates of achievement were given to the students on the defendant’s side, who were Anna Kaelbel, Rémy Kim, and Mélania Ryu. The certificate for the best speaker was given to Jae-In Lee. The project was a beautiful success thanks to the hardwork and the cooperation of all of the participants.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of this project!
