During the 4 years of middle school study from 6ème (grade 6) to 3ème (grade 9), students strengthen and develop their general knowledge and language skills.
With the first opportunity to select their own educational focus and an emphasis on enhanced independent learning, middle school also maps out the path to higher education.

EXPLORING DEEPER AND BROADER KNOWLEDGE
Cycle 3 begins in 6ème and spans the end of elementary schools through the beginning of middle school. In cycle 3, students gently transition and adapt to a new teaching approach and greater educational independence . They also begin learning a new foreign language (LVB).
Students will follow the following courses from the five learning fields of the Common Core:
Students may choose to continue or to start learning Korean and start learning Latin from 5ème (grade 7) as optional language courses.
Students are also given the opportunity to take the American International Section (SIA) course upon successful completion of an entrance test. SIA covers the English language, American literature and culture, as well as part of the History-Geography curriculum.
Find out more on the Language Learning page.
University counselling starts in 3ème (grade 9) and continues through high school, allowing for students to choose their options in Seconde, Première and Terminale (grades 10, 11, 12) according to their university and career plans.
THE DNB, A FRENCH NATIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADUATION CERTIFICATION
At the end of middle school, students take the DNB (National Brevet Certification) or DNBI (National Brevet Certification with an International option) if they are enrolled in SIA. The score count equally takes into account the following factors:
- the level of proficiency achieved in common core subjects continuously assessed throughout cycle 4, 5ème (grade 7) to 3ème (grade 9);
- the marks obtained in the written exams (French, Mathematics, History-Geography, Sciences) and in the oral exams at the end of the year.
his final exam takes place in June at school. In recent years, our students have been the pride of LFS with a 100% success rate in DNB exams and over 75% with high or very high honors.
AN EXPERIENCED TEACHING TEAM
Each subject is taught by an experienced and accredited teacher. A headteacher coordinates the educational team and is the point of reference for students, parents and LFS staff.
The quality of projects and teaching offered in accordance with the French curriculum reflects the commitment of teachers to their students’ success and learning.
REGULAR ASSESSMENT
Each student’s acquisition of skills is reviewed throughout the year.
A periodic report card is issued at the end of each term after a class council meeting chaired by the Headmaster and attended by all the teachers, parent representatives, student representatives and the Dean of Students (CPE).
THE PROZAP COMPETITIONS: A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS
Every year, LFS participates in international sports, cultural and scientific events with other French schools in the Asia Pacific region.
These PROZAPs (PROJECTS in the Asia Pacific Zone) are a unique opportunity for our students to participate in such projects and to engage in their passions: basketball, swimming, debating, coding, mathematics, etc.
Attending a PROZAP requires prior investment on the part of the students and teachers in charge. Students develop skills, build new ties with their peers from LFS or other schools and take great pride in representing LFS.
FIELD TRIPS AND OUTINGS TO EXPLORE SURROUNDINGS
Every year, middle school students embark on local field trips: exhibitions in museums or art centers, exchanges with international schools in Korea, local integration and study trips, etc.
Always in connection with teaching, these outings support learning about community life and open-mindedness.
THE SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY FOR RESEARCH AND INDIVIDUAL WORK
The Secondary School Library (CDI : Information and Documentation Center) is an open access space for middle and high school students. They can work individually or in groups on their school or extracurricular projects in this work and documentation research space.
A librarian is there to assist them in their research and to set up projects, with students and teachers, displayed in the CDI for all to enjoy.
The Young Writers’ Contest (Grand Concours des Jeunes Écrivains) in which 6ème (grade 6) and 5ème (grade 7) students participated in 2020 involved writing the sequel to an unpublished book. The more playful “Book Face” contest encouraged students to choose a book from CDI and to produce fun pictures by blending its cover with their faces.
Artists and writers are regularly invited to CDI to share and discuss their latest work with the students. The library also showcases pictures taken by students as part of the “Territoires d’Asie : des images et des mots (Asian Territories in pictures and words)”competition or themed events such as Science Week.
Students also enjoy access to ESIDOC, the resource platform of CDI, which references all documentation and online journals available at LFS.
