AZALEAS

Initiated in April 2020, the AZALEAS project involves a series of conferences organized and led by students at LFS and other AEFE schools, at which international experts and academics are invited to speak and debate on major current topics in economics, geopolitics, history and social sciences.

This ambitious educational project offers a unique opportunity for students to prepare effectively for the written and oral exams of the Baccalauréate, to flesh out their academic record and to fine-tune their university guidance plans for higher education studies in France and abroad (Sciences Po, Classes préparatoires, French and Anglo-Saxon universities). AZALEAS introduces students to research methods in social sciences and broadens their socio-economic knowledge through interactions with recognized academics and experts.

AZALEAS includes three components which are open to students at participating AEFE schools:

  • to follow online conferences-debates with academics or high-level experts on themes related to the school curriculum;
  • to participate in the organization and moderation of the events as panelists;
  • to write research articles based on these events to be presented at a virtual symposium to be held in May.

This PROZAP was initiated by Mr. Rezzik, Economics and Social Sciences teacher at LFS, and has enjoyed growing success with students, speakers and the public.

AZALEAS stands for Asia Zone Academic Lectures in Economics And Social sciences, and also owes its name to one of the emblematic flowers of South Korea.

You will find below the guests and themes discussed since the first event in April 2020.

Climate justice and inequality

This conference allowed us to understand the connection between environmental and social policies, thanks to Mr. Laurent’s approach according to which justice should not be sacrificed on the altar of climate policy. On the contrary, he considers that a true social justice policy must be the foundation of any effective environmental action. An iconoclastic approach that raised rich questions and sustained debate with the students.

Mr. Eloi LAURENT, economist, professor and research fellow. His best-seller  “Nos mythologies économiques” (Our economic mythologies) proposes to deconstruct fifteen preconceived ideas about the economy, which he groups under three main paradigms: “the end of neo-liberalism”, “emerging social xenophobia” and “persistent eco-scepticism”.
