SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AT LFS

Technology and digital tools are in constant evolution. They are part of our daily lives and have now entered the French educational sphere. Thanks to their diversity and flexibility, these tools provide students with specialized learning opportunities and skills development,  as well as opportunities to participate in scientific competitions.

Lycée Français de Séoul (LFS) has adopted an innovative and progressive approach to the use of new technologies and digital tools. Students are initiated to a moderate use in Kindergarten, encouraged to develop research and organizational skills in elementary school, and then guided to an independent and methodical use of computers and the Fab Lab in secondary school.

These skills acquired during their school years give them the keys to further studies in higher education.

AGE APPROPRIATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

  • A Fab Lab, opened in 2019, where students learn how to handle a 3D printer, mini drills, a welding station, a guillotine shear, a thermoplastic machine, a laser cutting machine etc.
  • 1 weather station on the rooftop of LFS allowing students to analyze climate data in real time
  • 1 self-service computer space at the Secondary School Library (CDI) for middle and high school students
  • Weekly lessons on technology from 6ème (grade 6) to Seconde (grade 10)
  • Participation in high school robotics (Zigzag) and coding (Code Night) contests
  • 120 iPads to support reading, mathematics and multidisciplinary collaborative projects
  • Occasional use of digital tools in Kindergarten with limited and controlled exposure
  • Use of the Google Classroom online platform for collaborative projects starting in elementary school and scientific data analysis in high school.
  • 10 Mbot robots, 15 Thymio robots and 2 drones to be piloted and programmed by primary middle school students
  • 1 Physical Education and Sports (EPS) mobile application developed at LFS to record physical data during workout
  • Learning Scratch and Python languages starting in CM classes (grades 4 and 5) through high school
  • 2 interactive digital boards and 1 interactive video projector for the use of students from elementary to high school

AN ANNUAL WEEK DEDICATED TO SCIENCE

Each year, LFS organizes a Science Week, an initiative shared by all French schools throughout the world within the AEFE network.

During this week, students from Kindergarten to high school participate in projects in their classes:

  • Middle school students introduce CM1 (grade 4) and CM2 (grade 5) students to the laboratories in secondary school, guide them in the use of microscopes and share their scientific knowledge with them
  • The school exhibits student projects on a shared theme (in 2020/2021: the weather)
  • Exhibitions and activities are organized for middle and high school students at the CDI

NUMEROUS COMPETITIONS AVAILABLE DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR

LFS is an examination center for the national mathematics test, TeSciA.

Our students also participate each year in national and international mathematics and science competitions, such as Mathematics Olympiads, Mathematics Kangaroo, Geosciences Olympiads, Algoréa Competition, Zig Zag Competition, Night of C0de…
